CHP Nutrition Services The mission of the CHP Nutrition Center at 94 West Ave. is to foster collaborations between people and organizations involved in food related activities in the Berkshire Region. We are a resource center and are here to address and support the needs of the community. We facilitate people’s enjoyment and curiosity about where their food comes from, how it is prepared, the eating experience, and how these relate to health. By creating an environment where people feel comfortable, we hope they will participate in hands-on, experiential food-related activities. We want people to be inspired about their food and health. To create a culture of food awareness, we are bringing together individuals, nutritionists, health care providers, educators, artists, farmers and chefs to participate in food events, nutrition education and advocacy for food related issues. We offer cooking classes and food choices to people with diabetes through our special program in diabetes nutrition to help them self manage and become self-sufficient in their care. We provide nutrition education to participants of the South Berkshire WIC Program. As part of WIC’s A to Z Program, we offer hands-on food preparation classes in our adult and child-friendly kitchens. We are a part of the team involved in working with the public schools to develop a Wellness Policy in the Berkshire Hills Regional School District, and to create a Nutrition Curriculum for the classroom. |
